Why would I want to pay for a bespoke solution as opposed to using an off-the-shelf program like ACT or QuickBooks?
Remember that programs like ACT and QuickBooks are NOT relational database programs. They are off-the-shelf software packages that are designed to perform certain functions for your company.
With any off-the-shelf software package such as ACT or QuickBooks, you're saving money up front at the expense of flexibility, expansion, and customisation later. For example, QuickBooks is a great accounting package but it is very weak as a contact manager. What if you need a contact manager program integrated with an accounting package? We can build this for you; We can even link your new contact manager program to QuickBooks or Sage.
A custom database system can have these advantages:
Your new system will be completely tailored for your needs. The program will work to fit your unique way of doing business, instead of the other way around. You don't have to change how you currently do things just to fit an off the shelf software program.

Even if SJH were to magically fall off the face of the earth, there is a large body of software developers in the UK The top level passwords used in your system are routinely lodged with a third party that will release them to you under certain circumstances. Back to Questions
How long will it take for my custom software to be built?
Depending on the size and the complexity of your solution, it can take anywhere from 4 weeks to several months to complete your project. Often we will propose a phased implementation to suit your circumstances and budget, most systems become ongoing development projects that evolve as your business grows and develops. Typically a new system goes live within one month of your first contact with SJH, additional users and features are added as the project develops over time. Back to Questions

Do we own the copyright to our custom databases?
No. Under copyright law, the actual programmer of custom software retains all rights to that software. Therefore, Steve Haines retains the rights to sell, distribute, and modify your custom solution for other uses. We will consider non marketing agreements of the software for specific time periods and / or co-marketing of the software with you to your industry sector.
You own all of your own proprietary data that is entered into your database system, and you are granted a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use your database system without the right to sub license it.
If you're looking to sell, transfer or distribute the custom software that SJH builds for you, please make contact so that other legal arrangements can be made before we begin creating your system. Back to Questions
Can you convert my existing spreadsheets to databases?
Yes, your spreadsheets often form the basis of our early discussions and the design of a new system for you, large amounts of spreadsheet data can be quickly converted and 'seeded' into your new database so that you can use your existing data more powerfully and reduce the amount of merging, typing and copy-pasting that you need to do every day. Can you connect your software to other systems?
Yes, We can connect to most off-the shelf commercially available software programs like Sage & Quickbooks. We can send data to them as well as receive data from them. We can also use SQL and ODBC functions within the solutions to connect to MS .Net and MS Sequel Server systems. Web integration using XML and web data publishing is also available. Can I password protect my databases?
Yes, Security and user level access is important, this will be taken into account at all stages of development of your new system. Full audit trailing and user logging is available as required. Back to Questions
Yes, most business already have a network that connects computers to printers, the Internet and to each other, your new database can become multi user very quickly and allow you to share information with your colleagues and clients . Back to Questions
No, SJH does not sell computers.
SJH only offers custom software applications for use on computers, not the computer hardware, networks or operating systems required to run the programs. If you have an existing computer supplier. we can work with them to specify the equipment needed.. SJH is an independent business software developer and has no recommended or affiliated suppliers of computer hardware or networks. Back to Questions
